How To Play Chess

The prime objective in the game of chess is to checkmate the King of your competitor. From a basic perspective, the ground rules for the game of chess seem pretty convenient in the context of learning how to play chess. However it is the actually game that requires some serious employment of logic and careful planning of moves. Basically the game of chess is played on a board containing sixty four squares, which are set up in a particular way. The Rooks are playing alongside the Knights (many of the chess players refer to the Knights as Horses). Then come the Bishops, which start next to the Knights, after which come the King and the Queen.

A prime factor worthy of consideration while you are in the process of learning how to play chess is the fact that the white and black Queens, both of them start the game on squares with their respective colors (that is a white Queen, as per the rule, has to start on a white square and a black Queen, in a similar fashion, starts on a black square). And, at the beginning of the game, always start with a white square in the lower right corner of the chessboard. In order to begin the game, it is the white that moves first followed by the black. Turns are taken until the checkmate or one of the player resign or both of the contestants reach the conclusion to end the game in a draw.

As for the king, he has the privilege to move one square in any direction he chooses to. Not to mention, the king also holds the right to capture any piece belonging to the opponent if it is located on one of those squares. The assumption that the opponent is not defending his piece is a prerequisite for applying this move. However the king could not justify moving on a square that is controlled by the opponent. Considering the privileges owned by the king, it is a valuable lesson for those who are learning how to play chess to take optimum utility of the liberties given to the king in this very game.

Basically if the king is under attack, provided that there is no evident way to nullify the attack or end it, the game reaches to a definite end, signaling the win of the attacker. All in all, playing chess is a challenging prospect where the intricacies of the contest require both presence of mind and timely employment of intelligent moves.
